Understanding and Using Keywords to Get Results!

SEO Step by Step

SEO Step by Step

Good keyword phrases will get people visiting your website regularly; low competition keywords mean they are not so difficult to rank for. There are two kinds of keywords: long-tail keywords which are phrases of three or more words, these are easier to rank for as there is less competition, and short-tail keywords that consist of one or two words.

To find effective keywords that apply to your niche, and help your search rankings, also help people find your website, there is a tool: Search Google keyword tool which is free to use. If you need help using it there is a very clear explanation in Caimin Jones book “SEO for beginners”, it also offers other SEO help, I discovered it some time ago, it sits on my bookcase and has loads of useful info in it.

The keyword tool will help you find the most relevant and often searched for words in your niche. It is difficult to tell which phrase more people are searching for just my looking, but by using the search tool you can easily find out. Looking at these words what do you think is the most searched for word: cooking, cooking games, or cooking recipes, it may not be what you expect!

When you write an article for your website use the keyword once in the title, and a density of one or two percent is usually recommended for the text, therefore in a 500 word article that would be between five and ten times. However don’t write for search engines write for readers, your articles will then have a natural flow, this will benefit your readers and search engines won’t penalize you for stuffing, to get noticed. If you know what you ae writing about, your use of keywords will happen quite naturally.

There are tools and plug-ins you can use to make a count for you, or you can just go through your article checking keywords as you check for typos and spelling errors before you publish.
